Guests joined artist Justin Favela (Foundry, 2024) and his relatives at Family Fiesta held during the Arts/Industry Alumni Gathering. They enjoyed food, games, dancing, music, and piñatas! Guests were encouraged to bring their kids, parents, neighbors, and friends to the fun-filled community event!

This Family Fiesta was modeled after the family barbecues and celebrations Favela attended in his youth and into adulthood. Favela’s artwork was featured in Clocking In: 2024 Arts/Industry Residents.

Family Fiesta is a celebration with Justin Favela and his family! In this ongoing series of performances, the public is encouraged to participate in the celebration firsthand by enjoying food, drinks, music, games and piñata time. The events are taken out of the traditional context of park outings or backyard cookouts and performed in unconventional locations challenging people's expectations of a fiesta, and at the same time, dismantling notions of place and institutional inclusion.
